Norfolk Island Pine
Sourcing, Milling
2017

Warrnambool is famous for their streets lined with Norfolk Island pines planted in large numbers between 1852 – 1903.

Norfolk Island pine is characterised by their large, red knots and the Warrnambool Art Gallery was keen to use the timber for a feature table at the gift shop.

The timing was perfect: two trees had just been felled at the local police station and with a little detective work I was able to locate and get in touch with the contractor who removed the trees.

I took a gamble and drove out to Warrnambool and made a deal on the spot and the foreman, who sensed my interest gave me the rare opportunity to personally mill boards to the specifications required for the project.
